For over 40 years I have spent bits of time on our family history. For those of you who have been working on yours for many years, you realize that being online is a great way to expand your research, but it also has inherent problems.  The "old way" was slower and limited by access and circumstances, but online information can be misleading and overwhelming. Always keep in mind that just because it's in print somewhere does not make it a fact, and even multiple sources for the same information can all be wrong.

Working on the Rutherford line, I have run into many people searching different branches of our tree who seem to be completely unrelated right now. We Rutherfords come from every possible ethnic or economic background. By marriage we link to thousands of other surnames. Trying to keep track of all the Rutherfords and their kin, to keep them in perspective yet somehow connected, I saw a need for a central clearing house just for us. There are literally hundreds of us looking for genealogical links to our own Rutherford family lines. Queries and posts show that the number of people searching for Rutherford is higher than on many other surname lists. Add the fact that many of us are also related to the early SMITH families who came to North America, and you can see why we include an incredible number of researchers.

So...  JOIN US ...  Let's get organized and help each other. Let's find every possible link and legacy we share.

I do as much research as I can find time for on all of these lines, so queries related to any that may relate to Rutherford, even distantly, are welcomed.
The states many of our line came through are VA, WV, KY, IN, MN and WI. There are counties, towns and cemeteries named Rutherford or Rutherfordton all across the US. See our new EVENTS page for links. There are Rutherford people in all 50 of the United States and many countries.

Submit information, files, personal stories etc to cmrhere@aol.com or details of your particularly troublesome searches. Maybe we can help you locate that one important clue you need. I have many reference books available and will do look-ups. I have uploaded a partial list from my library to help Rutherford Researchers who request look-ups. Perhaps you can help with that by sending me your library list? See the new LIBRARY page. There's even a Blog page that has links to all sorts of Rutherford and general Genealogy information that has popped up online in a more editorial or entertainment format.
